How to Choose the Right Baby Hat Size

If your baby has already been born, measure the head circumference with a soft measuring tape. Place it around the widest part of the head — above the eyebrows and around the back of the head.

If you are choosing a hat before birth, for a maternity hospital bag or a coming-home outfit, 40 cm is usually the most practical newborn size.

Choose the hat size according to your baby’s head circumference:

• 38 cm — for very small newborn babies or babies expected to be smaller at birth
• 40 cm — the most common choice for a maternity hospital bag and first newborn outfits
• 44 cm — for older babies or as the next size after the newborn stage
